Newcastle United are reportedly making big preparations to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona before the upcoming January deadline, sparking fresh debate over the Spaniard’s future at Camp Nou.

According to Fichajes, Newcastle are willing to make a huge offer of €75 million and a generous salary for the player, who could be one of the hottest transfers of the winter.

Torres has reaffirmed himself as a meaningful attacking option for Barcelona this season. The 25-year-old, who can play on the wing or as a forward, has already featured in 17 games, scoring nine goals and providing one assist.

Newcastle’s interest is driven by the need to strengthen their final third. The Magpies appear determined to ensure the team has enough quality up front in terms of goalscoring and creativity, with reports saying they remain keen on signing players such as Harvey Barnes.

Newcastle’s offer is not only financially generous in terms of transfer fee, but also intends to make Torres one of the highest-paid players in the squad, demonstrating their ambition to treat him as a key pillar in their long-term push towards European contention.

Although the amount on offer is high, selling Torres would be more complicated than just making ends meet for Barcelona.

Under manager Hansi Flick, Torres seems to have rediscovered his form, with his contributions in 2025 showing a resurgence, including consistent appearances in La Liga and European matches.

That said, Barcelona have so far rejected efforts to drop him. In early 2025, bids of around €50 million from Premier League clubs including Newcastle were rejected, with the club reportedly claiming publicly that Torres was not for sale.

Still, given the financial pressures and potential for reinvestment, a €75 million offer could become difficult to ignore, especially if the player is deemed expendable compared to other team priorities.

From Newcastle’s perspective, signing Torres would be a bold statement. They will be adding a player with solid experience in La Liga, familiarity with the Premier League from his time at Manchester City and a profile to deliver in the final third.
