Chelsea are reportedly in talks to transfer Mohamed Zongo, a highly regarded Burkina Faso prodigy.
And according to the Daily Mail, the Blues are seen as favorites to sign the talented 16-year-old attacking midfielder, ahead of rivals Manchester United.
Although no deal has been finalized yet, Chelsea appear to be in an advantageous position as they seek to sign Zongo, despite interest from other big clubs such as Man United, Villarreal and Anderlecht.
Chelsea fans will no doubt be hoping that this deal will be finalized soon, as the club is closing in on another exciting deal for the future.
Who is Chelsea transfer target Mohamed Zongo?
The Mail says Chelsea are one of the clubs who were impressed by Zongo’s performance in the recent Under-17 World Cup against Burkina Faso.
A skilful attacker who can play both centrally and out wide, Zongo scored two goals in the tournament, helping a modest Burkina Faso team advance to the quarter-finals.
The teenager is a product of the Tenakourou Academy and it seems inevitable that he will soon be noticed by Europe’s biggest names.
It will be interesting to see whether Zongo continues on to Chelsea, or whether the west London giants first capitalize on their links with Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, as they have done with other players recently.
Chelsea have generally been successful in signing some of the best young players in world football in recent years, with the current owners focusing on long-term projects rather than acquiring superstar names for immediate success.
This policy has worked well, as they have discovered talents such as Cole Palmer, Estebao Willian, Maro Gusto and Andrei Santos.
It will likely be some time before he is seriously considered for a regular spot in Enzo Maresca’s first team, but Zongo appears to be a good fit at Stamford Bridge.
