According to Football Insider, the Manchester City midfielder could be given the chance to leave the club and join Leeds United.
The English midfielder has struggled at the Etihad Stadium, with manager Josep Guardiola not using any midfielders.
His career has been hampered by a lack of playing time since joining City, and his stay at City has not helped either the club or the player at the moment.
Loan moves to Ipswich Town and West Ham United have also failed, and a move to Leeds United, where he played some of the best football of his career, appears to be the only chance to revive his career.
Kalvin Phillips is attracting interest from Premier League clubs
Wolves and Leeds United are rumored to be linked with a move for Phillips, and it looks like his time at Man City could soon come to an end.
Former Man City financial advisor Stefan Bolson told Football Insider:
“Obviously the player is in dire need of a move. He’s not going to play for City. I think he’s a player with a decent attitude. I don’t think he’s completely down with the situation, but it’s not good for him and he needs to move.”
“I think City are willing to pay most of his salary, maybe all of it. I mean, why not? City are getting nothing from him.
“Honestly, why not give him a chance to revive his career and try to get some value out of a future sale, even if it’s on a free transfer, just to waive the wage bill?”
Man City must make a decision on Phillips’ departure soon. Retaining players will not benefit them and will actually hurt the careers of talented players.
A move to Leeds United could revive his career
At 30, he still has a lot to offer and a team like Leeds could benefit from a player of his quality.
Phillips has dedicated the majority of his career to Los Blancos, so he understands the club, the fans and the demands of playing for them.
A solution to his problem could come in January rather than in the summer transfer window.
Once one of the best players in his position in the Premier League and a regular for England, Phillips is currently struggling to maintain his presence at Man City and warm up the bench.
