Newcastle United are now reportedly aiming to bring the Bundesliga talent to the Premier League in 2026.
Wissa Hope shocked before Newcastle, Burnley
Newcastle certainly could have won Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur with more firepower from Yoan Wissa. They welcomed the news that he had been omitted from the Democratic Republic of the Congo squad for the African Cup of Nations, but were yet to welcome the summer signing back from the sidelines.
But that may be about to change. The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope published an unexpected update on Wissa’s fitness on Wednesday afternoon, claiming the forward is currently “pushing” to make a blitz return to the bench against Burnley.
With the games fast approaching, it is no exaggeration to say that Wissa’s return against Burnley will be a big boost for Eddie Howe. The Newcastle manager is yet to see this summer deal in action.
The returning forward may not be the only player to give Howe some much-needed reinforcement in the coming months. With less than a month left until the January transfer window, reports suggest that Newcastle are preparing to sign Igor Thiago in a repeat bid for Wissa.
The Brentford forward, who replaced Wissa in west London, has not beaten Erling Haaland in the Premier League so far this season and could have done enough to earn him a big move.
The St James’ Park side look poised to further improve their quality across the pitch, with Bilal El Kanous also emerging as a target for 2026.
Newcastle decide to sign El Canous
As reported by TeamTalk, Newcastle are currently determined to sign El Canus in 2026 and could try to get him a deal once his loan spell at VfB Stuttgart ends next summer.
£65m Newcastle duo will be furious at Howe’s team selection for game against Spurs
Two Newcastle players in particular won’t be too happy at the moment.
During his time away from Leicester City, the midfielder improved, scoring five goals in all competitions and scoring a further six. But his mind is set on a return to the Premier League, which Newcastle could offer next year.
It is clear that El Canus, who was described by Como scout Ben Mattinson in April as one of his “most intelligent creators”, wants to finish up his unfinished business in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old left Leicester City on a whim last season but could roar back into England’s top tier next year courtesy of Newcastle.
