  • Thomas Frank is struggling in midfield
  • Tottenham plan ambitious double transfer for midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a major midfield rebuild next summer, with reports suggesting the north London club are planning to spend big on two of the Premier League’s most promising young talents, Brighton’s Carlos Baleva and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

According to TEAMtalk, Spurs believe the pair will be central to a long-term revamp of their midfield as they look to inject youth, energy and creativity into a squad that has struggled under Thomas Frank.

Tottenham’s recent struggles in the Premier League, with them going five games without a win, have exposed a glaring weakness in midfield.

Injuries, inconsistency and a lack of dynamism have hampered build-up play, leaving Frank looking for new solutions.

Thomas Frank is struggling in midfield

Frank’s arrival from Brentford was intended to bring tactical organization and control, but the midfield’s lack of balance and attacking ambition quickly became a major concern.

Spurs leaders, led by sporting director Johan Lange, are reportedly determined to address those deficiencies through the transfer market.

Bareva, 21, has been one of Brighton’s best performers since joining from Lille in 2023.

He is known for his strong ball-carrying ability and impressive composure under pressure.

Tottenham know securing his signature will not be cheap, with Brighton’s well-documented success in maximizing the value of players, as seen with Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister.

Meanwhile, Wharton is also being pursued by top English clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool.

Wharton’s value has skyrocketed in recent months and increased competition for his services will only make it harder for the north London club to sign him.

If Tottenham are serious about signing both players, they could be considering a club-record move.

Once defined by experience and discipline, the club’s midfield now requires youth and technical dynamism to match Frank’s evolving philosophy.

With increased pressure on Frank to turn the team around and fans demanding more creativity and control, a move could happen next year. Whether they join Spurs or wait for another club is another matter.
