Tottenham in ‘very advanced’ talks with £88m replacement for Semenyo over Spurs move

  • Tottenham plan to sign new attacker
        • Tottenham could prove ‘attractive’ for the manager, who Levy had been urged to hire ahead of Frank
  • Tottenham are in ‘very advanced’ talks with Diomande’s camp

Tottenham have already made some progress on their transfer plans for 2026, with “very advanced” discussions taking place between the players.

Tottenham plan to sign new attacker

Spurs are thought to be adding to their attacking reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window, with Thomas Frank desperate to address the creative issues plaguing the team at the moment.

The Lilywhites were once again unconvincing against Newcastle on Tuesday, despite a performance from captain Cristian Romero to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Romero’s diving header and overhead kick in stoppage time was Spurs’ only shot on target throughout the match, and it’s clear the north Londoners can improve their quality going forward.

FC Porto striker Sam Agehowa has emerged as one of the club’s main targets, with Spurs having “intent” to sign the 21-year-old, according to some reports.

The Spanish international has scored six goals and provided one assist in 11 league games for Porto this season, taking his total to 37 goals in 62 appearances since joining the Portuguese giants from Atletico Madrid last year.

Dominic Solanke has been sidelined since the beginning of 2025/2026 with an ankle problem and underwent surgery in early October, while Matthijs Tell, Richarlison and Randall Kolo Muani definitely failed to set the world on fire.

Tottenham could prove ‘attractive’ for the manager, who Levy had been urged to hire ahead of Frank

He is on the verge of leaving his current club.

Kolo Muani has also been plagued by injury problems, which have limited his minutes, but the Frenchman made an excellent substitution in last week’s Champions League game against parent club PSG.

He was a bright light for Spurs, scoring twice and providing an assist in the 5-3 defeat, but with Richarlison inconsistent and Matthijs Tell still inexperienced, they need more support.

That said, with Solanke’s return looming, Tottenham are reportedly more likely to sign a wide forward than a central striker in January.

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye are both rumored to be targets to strengthen Tottenham’s attack, with the former’s contract including a £65m release clause that comes into effect in early January.

However, with Man City also keen on Semenyo as Spurs, Frank’s side could face a tough battle against Premier League title contenders.

According to Sky Sports Switzerland’s Sascha Tavolieri, Semenyo’s potential replacement is RB Leipzig sensation Yann Diomande.

Tottenham are in ‘very advanced’ talks with Diomande’s camp

The reporter said Tottenham are in “very advanced” discussions with Diomande’s agents and are positioned as the front-runners in the race to sign him, along with Liverpool.

Spurs have been monitoring the Ivorian for months and Tavolieri said both the north Londoner and Arne Slott’s side are rushing into talks with the 19-year-old in the camp, but no club has yet made formal contact with Leipzig.

Diomande quickly impressed after joining Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes for £17.5m last summer, and the Bundesliga side are now reportedly slapping an £88m price tag on his head to avoid suitors.

The left winger has played in 14 games in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists, establishing himself as a star regular in Ole Werner’s attacking line-up.

The promising talent only made his first appearance for a top club in March and has made rapid progress since then, with Leipzig now poised to demand a move that could break Josko Gvardiol’s record £79 million move to City.

Barcelona are also rumored to be interested, but talks with his agent have not begun, with Liverpool and Tottenham in the lead.

According to some reports (Foot Africa), both Premier League clubs are even considering a move in January, but Leipzig are well aware of the growing interest and are yet to hold talks with any club.

For Frank, signing Diomand could be risky. That’s because he has only recently arrived on the scene and could cost a lot of money.
