James Breaks Free: 18-Year-Old Record Finally Shattered

The Los Angeles Lakers edged out the Toronto Raptors 123-120, bringing an end to LeBron James’ extraordinary run of scoring at least 10 points in 1,297 consecutive regular-season NBA games. At 40 years old, James contributed eight points and 11 assists in the game, including the decisive pass to Rui Hachimura that secured the victory.

“I’m just playing the game the right way,” James, now entering his historic 23rd season, remarked. “Always make the right play. That’s how I was taught the game.”

The last time James scored fewer than 10 points was in January 2007, surpassing Michael Jordan’s prior record by 431 games. Despite facing shooting difficulties—hitting only 4 of 17 attempts and missing all five three-pointers—James still managed to impact the game. Meanwhile, with top scorer Luka Doncic absent for personal reasons, Austin Reeves stepped up for the Lakers with an impressive 44 points and 10 assists.

In March, James made history as the first NBA player to accumulate 50,000 points combined in regular season and playoff games.

Fan Take: This marks the end of an era, showcasing LeBron’s relentless consistency and resilience over nearly two decades. Basketball fans should see this as a reminder of how the sport evolves, with new stars ready to rise while honoring legends like LeBron who redefine greatness.
