Jockey Rajiv Mallah achieved a significant milestone by securing his 2,000th career win at Gulfstream Park on Friday, December 5, riding Lazio to a hard-earned victory in the third race. Reflecting on this achievement, Mallah expressed how surreal it felt considering his journey since 2000, acknowledging the many people who supported him along the way. After stepping away from racing in January 2022 to focus on his food delivery business, Road Jockey, in Jamaica, he returned to riding at Gulfstream on October 29, 2024, with the goal of reaching 2,000 wins.

“This milestone has been a motivating short-term goal, and achieving it among Gulfstream’s top-level championship competition makes anything seem possible,” said Mallah. During the race, the 40-year-old veteran jockey pushed Lazio to take the lead and hold off challengers, winning comfortably in a five-and-a-half furlong contest on Tapeta for horses aged three and older.

Mallah’s career includes 25 Grade 1 stakes victories, many during trainer Graham Motion’s Eclipse Award-winning season. Memorable wins include those with Main Sequence in 2014 and significant victories like the 2015 Mac Diarmida (G2) at Gulfstream. One of his cherished moments is winning his first stakes race as an apprentice in 2005 and naming his daughter after a mare trained by Hall of Famer Allen Jerkens. Mallah’s first-ever win came on February 1, 2004, at Tampa Bay Downs.

Fan Take: Rajiv Mallah’s journey to 2,000 wins is an inspiring testament to perseverance and talent in horse racing, highlighting the sport’s rewarding nature for dedicated athletes. His continued success at top-tier events uplifts the sport’s prestige and inspires both future jockeys and fans alike.
