Newcastle United were heavily linked with the signing of Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi in the summer transfer window.
However, the Italian team decided not to sell the player at the time. Newcastle remain keen on the player and were given the chance to sign him in January. According to Calciomercato (h/t SportWitness), the player has struggled to earn regular minutes at the Italian club and is no longer a key part of their plans.
Newcastle to sign Davide Frattesi?
The player is expected to be sold for a transfer fee of 30 million euros, but it remains to be seen how the situation will play out. Napoli also appear to be interested in the player. It will be interesting to see if Newcastle follow up their interest with a formal offer for his signature.
They have the funds to pay €30 million for the player. They could use more depth in the center of the park and Frattesi would add drive and creativity to the wings.
Fratteshi needs movement
The Italian international also needs a fresh start and a move to the Premier League would be ideal. Newcastle have an ambitious project and he may be tempted to be part of it. He could also play alongside compatriot Sandro Tonali at an English club.
Newcastle compete in the UEFA Champions League and managed to win the domestic trophy last season. For most players, they will be an attractive destination.
Instead of sitting on the bench at Inter Milan, a move to Newcastle would be ideal for the player and would help him regain form and confidence. If he can develop over the next few months, there is a good chance he will play for an elite club again in the future.
