Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Mohamed Salah’s situation at Liverpool amid growing interest from the Saudi Professional League.
Romano explained on his YouTube channel that Saudi Arabia’s opinion of Salah remains high, but that there are currently no talks regarding a move.
However, Romano admitted that the Egyptian international has been in a different situation this season and has not been able to perform for Liverpool.
Whether that will definitely lead to Salah leaving Anfield remains to be seen, but Romano is perhaps hinting that it could be a key factor in determining the player’s future.
But overall, the journalist’s point was clear: Salah is focused on LFC at the moment and is not discussing a move away from the club.
Fabrizio Romano talks about Mohamed Salah and Saudi transfer speculation
Watch the full video below as Romano discusses some of the biggest talking points of the moment, including Salah’s status after being benched by Liverpool in a recent game.
“A lot of the questions I’ve been getting these days are also about Mo Salah and Saudi Arabia,” Romano said. “It’s been a difficult start to the season for Mo Salah, that’s very clear. That’s the reality too.”
“It’s not the same feeling. But it’s not just Mo Salah. You have to mention probably 10, 11, 12, 15 players at Liverpool who are not performing at the same level. Only a few of them have performed very well this season.”
“Mo Salah obviously has a different feeling to see him perform like this after having a great season last year.
“The evaluation from Saudi Arabia is still ongoing. This is how traders work in Saudi Arabia, and unless something strange happens, if they like the player, the evaluation remains and the player remains on the shortlist. This also applies to Salah.”
“Salah has been and will continue to be a Saudi target. But this is up to the player. What I can guarantee is that as of today in December, no negotiations or talks have started between Mo Salah and his camp or the Saudi clubs. Nothing is happening right now.”
“Mo Salah remains focused on Liverpool. Just a few months ago, Mo Salah signed a new contract with the club with a very important annual salary. He wants to show his commitment in difficult times. So Mo Salah is completely and completely focused on Liverpool. That must be clear. Fully focused on Liverpool.”
Salah is back on the bench due to Arne Slott
Salah was placed on the bench for the third consecutive game by Liverpool manager Arne Slott.
The 33-year-old only came on as a substitute in today’s game against Leeds United and missed out on the starts against West Ham and Sunderland.
It will be interesting to see if Salah can regain his place, as if this situation continues it will certainly be difficult for him to continue playing happily for much longer at the Merseyside giants.
