Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp urged Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehy to sign a transfer deal in January this year.
After the Reds gave up a 2-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Leeds United on Saturday, pundits urged a move for Guehi, suggesting they thought it could be a realistic deal for them.
Guehi’s contract with Crystal Palace expires this summer, so January is the last chance for the south London club to cash in on his departure.
Watch below as Redknapp insists on introducing Guehi as soon as possible to remove the out-of-form Ibrahima Konate…
Jamie Redknapp urges Liverpool to sign Marc Guehi
“At the moment, just taking him out of action a little bit is probably going to be an advantage for Konate,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports’ match broadcast.
“But they don’t really have that option because they have to manage Conor Bradley’s minutes. Joe Gomez has had so many injuries that he has to be really careful with his knee.”
“I think the ideal thing would be to sign Guehi in January. I think Crystal Palace would see that as the only way to get money out of this situation because I think his contract expires in the summer.
“He would be perfect for Liverpool. That’s exactly what they need to play with Virgil (van Dijk).”
“I think the (Mohamed) Salah situation will prevail, but I think they need to get another centre-back.”
Liverpool to sign Marc Guehi in January?
At the moment, there is some confusion over Liverpool’s signing of Guehi after missing out on him at the end of the summer.
Just a few days ago, TEAMtalk reported that LFC had resumed negotiations to sign Guehi in January this year.
However, this has yet to be confirmed by the likes of Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein, and in fact Athletic have hinted that other clubs will be included in discussions as well.
Liverpool would definitely benefit from having a top central defender like Guehi join now after conceding an astonishing 24 goals in their first 15 league games, but there is no guarantee that convincing him to join now will be so easy.
