The Saudi Professional League club is now reportedly hoping to sign Liverpool star Mohamed Salah for a cut price in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Egyptian international is currently unwell and manager Arne Slott left him on the bench for the club’s last two matches against West Ham and Sunderland.

According to iNews, the situation gives the Saudi side more confidence in signing Salah for a reduced fee as they prepare for a move in January.

What officials are saying about Mohamed Salah’s move to Saudi Arabia

“Several executives within the PIF (Saudi Public Investment Fund) and the Pro League believe that the power is with them,” said an official quoted in the report.

“Mo’s form, his frustration at not being in the team, Liverpool needing to change something and the fact that they have too many strikers all play a role in pushing him to the Middle East.”

The article adds that although the 33-year-old ultimately signed a new contract at Anfield at the end of last season, Saudi officials feel there was serious temptation for Salah to join earlier.

Is it time for Liverpool to let go of Mohamed Salah?

Salah is an LFC legend, having scored 250 goals for the club since joining in 2017, helping them win two Premier League titles, the Champions League and other major accolades in that time.

Still, even the best players come to an end at some point, and Salah has only exceeded his best this season without having any of the impact he has had in the past.

With just five goals in 19 games so far, it might be worth considering letting Salah go and replacing him with a player who has either already reached his peak, or is about to reach his peak in the next couple of years.

Antoine Semenyo might be ideal, and with a separate iNews report linking him with Liverpool, he would make sense as a player to keep an eye on.
