Three Premier League clubs, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Aston Villa, are likely to be disappointed with the signing of FC Porto striker Sam Agehowa, but the Portuguese giants are determined to keep the prolific forward beyond January.
According to TEAMtalk, all three England teams are keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old Spanish forward, and his exceptional performances in Portugal have made him one of the most exciting young attacking players in Europe.
However, Porto made its position clear. Agehowa is not sold during the winter.
Agejoa joined Porto from Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2024 and has been in the spotlight since joining the Estadio do Dragón.
Sam Agehowa enjoys high praise at FC Porto
In just over a year, he scored 25 league goals and became a central figure in the team chasing the title.
His performances not only transformed Porto’s attack, but also earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team and further increased his profile across Europe.
Despite growing interest from England, Porto revealed Agehowa was untouchable in January this year.
The striker has a release clause of 80 million euros and several clubs have inquired about possible negotiations, but Porto’s bosses are reluctant to enter into negotiations midway through the season.
The club believes Agehowa is “essential” to Porto’s ambitions to regain the Primeira Liga title, something the club have failed to achieve since 2022.
Tottenham fall back in pursuit of attackers
For Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa, the development is a setback in their search for attacking reinforcements.
Tottenham, managed by Thomas Frank, are desperate to add a goalscorer to ease the burden on their current attacking line-up.
However, all three clubs are now expected to postpone the transfer until the summer of 2026, when Porto may be more willing to negotiate, especially if Agehowa’s release clause becomes a factor in the negotiations.
Still, given the Premier League’s financial strength and growing reputation for developing Spanish players, interest is expected to rise again in the summer.
