Sunderland are planning to add players to their squad in January, but some may leave the Stadium of Light. One player who could end up on the move is Eliezer Mayenda, who has struggled to make his mark since being promoted to the Premier League.
Mayenda had some outstanding performances in the Championship, but has struggled to feature regularly since the arrival of Brian Brobbey in the summer. He currently sits third in the table behind Wilson Isidore and the Dutch international, and has therefore only made eight appearances in the Premier League, three of which have been in the opening minutes.
Mayenda has been linked with a move to Leeds in 2024, but this time his move could be to the Bundesliga.
Elienzer Mayenda wanted by German clubs
According to RTL/ntv and Sport.de (via Sport Witness), Mayenda is attracting interest from at least one yet-to-be-named club in Germany’s top flight. His struggles this season are seen as an opportunity to sign for the Spain Under-21s, and given his current situation on Wearside, he may be open to a move.
Should Sunderland consider letting Eliezer Mayenda go?
Mayenda is only 20 years old and did well in last season’s Championship, but we must remember that the Premier League is a different ball game. Regis Le Bris is aware of this and therefore decides not to rely on him too much.
It would make little sense for Sunderland to sell Mayenda, but if a loan move can be agreed it would be ideal for all parties. He needs playing time and the chance to get that in the Bundesliga would definitely be an opportunity he couldn’t refuse.
