Helmut Marko Drops Bombshell Accusation: Calls Christian Horner a Liar

Helmut Marko has leveled serious accusations against Christian Horner following his departure from Red Bull, accusing his former team principal of dishonesty. After 25 years with the team, Red Bull recently announced Marko would step down from his role as motorsport advisor at the end of the season.

In an interview with Dutch outlet De Limburger, Marko dismissed rumors of a “power struggle” within Red Bull around the time Horner was dismissed following the British Grand Prix this year. He explained that the media exaggerated the situation and emphasized that the conflict wasn’t personal. Marko recounted how he and the late Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz founded Red Bull Racing in 2005, appointing Horner as team principal while ultimate authority remained with them in Austria.

Marko recalled a moment early in 2022 before the Austrian Grand Prix when Horner expressed doubts about Mateschitz’s health and began aligning with Chalerm Juvidya. After Mateschitz passed away later that year, Horner, supported by Juvidya, allegedly tried to seize control of the company, a move Marko resisted on behalf of Austria.

Marko accused Horner of unethical behavior and fabrications, citing examples such as false claims about driver focus during the Sergio Perez era and accusations that Marko spread rumors about engine development delays to jeopardize a partnership with Ford. He stated that thanks to Max Verstappen’s support, Horner’s efforts to have him suspended failed. Marko also claimed they uncovered multiple lies told by Horner, leading Juvidya to reconsider his position.

When asked if Horner’s dismissal felt like a victory, Marko confidently said yes, suggesting that if Horner had been removed sooner, they could have corrected their course earlier and possibly secured Verstappen’s world championship this year.
