Former San Jose Sharks forward Dylan Gambrell has secured a new opportunity, as the Iowa Wild announced they have signed him to an American Hockey League (AHL) contract for the remainder of the season.

This season, Gambrell played exclusively in the AHL with the Cleveland Monsters, where he tallied 13 goals, 12 assists, and 25 points in 54 games, with a -6 plus/minus rating. Prior to this, during the 2023-24 season, he appeared in 66 games for the Toronto Marlies, contributing 14 goals, 22 assists, and 36 points.

Gambrell last competed in the NHL with the Ottawa Senators during the 2022-23 season. He appeared in 60 games for the Senators in the Atlantic Division, scoring 4 goals, adding 6 assists, and totaling 10 points.

Originally, Gambrell was drafted 60th overall by the Sharks in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Over four seasons with San Jose (2017-18 to 2020-21), he played 110 games, registering 10 goals, 13 assists, 23 points, and 130 hits.

Fan Take: Dylan Gambrell’s move to the Iowa Wild is a notable step for a versatile player looking to re-establish himself in professional hockey. For fans, this signals the ongoing challenge and competitive journey many players face in carving out consistent NHL roles, highlighting the depth and passion present throughout the AHL and beyond.
