Sunderland recently managed to beat Newcastle United in the Premier League, but the Magpies are far ahead of their rivals in other aspects.

Newcastle are currently one of the richest clubs in the world and have a talented squad at their disposal. They were able to win the English League Cup last season and are currently competing in the UEFA Champions League.

Furthermore, Newcastle has made great strides commercially.

Financial expert Adam Williams says Sunderland are unlikely to be able to compete with Newcastle anytime soon, especially on the commercial front.

Newcastle far outpaces its rivals in terms of revenue and is likely to announce commercial revenues worth £100m soon. They also have the highest matchday revenue outside of the Big Six clubs.

Williams believes Sunderland will have to work very hard to catch them commercially and that it will take a significant amount of time.

“They won’t be worth the same as Newcastle any time soon, but as a proportion of the owner’s overall portfolio they are more important,” Williams told Geordie Boot Boys.

“Having said that, Newcastle are far ahead of Sunderland in terms of revenue, capacity and spending ability. They will become the first club outside the Big Six to break the £100m mark in terms of commercial income. They are also the biggest source of matchday income outside the Big Six.”

It remains to be seen whether Sunderland can maintain their high level of performance this season and secure their place in the Premier League.

They need to stay at the top for many years and may also need a big cash injection from their new owners if they want to catch up with Newcastle in the future.

Newcastle, on the other hand, will be disappointed with how the season has played out so far. They sit mid-table and will be hoping to bounce back strongly this season and finish in a respectable position.

They have quality players at their disposal and fans will want more from the team.
