Calciomercato report that AS Roma are exploring the possibility of signing Tottenham Hotspur forward Matthijs Tell as part of their January plans to strengthen their attacking options.
The Italian club, under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, are working hard to strengthen their frontline amid growing uncertainty over their current attacking power and long-term plans.
The 20-year-old French forward joined Spurs from Bayern Munich last summer and quickly flourished under manager Thomas Frank, but has struggled to establish a consistent starting role in north London.
Roma see Tell as a dynamic and versatile attacker who can play across the front lines and who can inject speed, creativity and youthful energy into the squad as they aim to qualify for the Champions League.
Roma eyeing Tottenham star to add depth
The Giallorossi are looking for attacking reinforcements, with Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee previously named as a priority target.
However, reports in both Italy and England say the Red Devils have no intention of letting Zirksee leave in January and hope to reassess his situation in the summer.
This has forced Roma to turn to alternative options, with Tell emerging as a likely candidate under consideration.
No formal contact has yet been made between Roma and Tottenham, but the Italian club’s recruitment team are closely monitoring Tell’s situation.
Matisse Tell wants more playing time
Tell remains highly rated but faces stiff competition for minutes from Richarlison and other Spurs attackers.
Franck has primarily used him as an impactful substitute, a role that could prompt the young Frenchman to consider opportunities elsewhere in search of regular football.
Spurs are not actively considering selling Tell, but could consider a loan deal if it would help accelerate Tell’s development, especially if the club is able to secure additional attacking reinforcements in January.
