Crypti Gym Continues Strong Growth Trajectory in Newbury

Cryptijim secured a hard-earned win in the Amber River Life Landscape EBF ‘National Hunt’ Novice Hurdle at Newbury. The five-year-old, trained by Joe Tizzard, had previously triumphed at Ascot but was carrying a penalty for that victory. Although the absence of the promising Starzand eased the challenge somewhat, Cryptijim still faced strong competitors, including William Harvey’s Irish-trained Daydream Nation and Ben Poehling’s well-supported Trial by Jury.

The top three favorites maintained their positions throughout the race. Cryptijim showed solid jumping skills but stumbled slightly under pressure, allowing the others to stay close. Despite this, the 6-5 favorite, ridden by Brendan Powell, pulled ahead to win by three-quarters of a length.

Garth Bloom, who owns the horse alongside his wife Anne under the Brocade Racing banner, commented that Cryptijim is still developing but shows great potential. While there are no specific plans for the horse’s future yet, Bloom mentioned the possibility of stepping up in class and noted that Cryptijim has qualified for the EBF finals, though the goal remains unclear as the trainers have yet to decide. Bloom expressed satisfaction with the win despite the penalty, hinting that better opportunities might be sought for the horse down the line.

Fan Take: This victory highlights Cryptijim’s rising talent in the novice hurdle scene, signaling an exciting prospect for horse racing enthusiasts. It also underscores the competitive nature of the sport, where even penalized horses can strive and succeed, adding unpredictability and drama to upcoming events.
