Liverpool continued their recent run of form with a third straight win, defeating Tottenham 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night.
However, the Reds admittedly had some benefit from Spurs, but a foolish and reckless challenge on Virgil van Dijk by Xavi Simmons meant they were reduced to 10 men in the first half.
Liverpool then looked to have taken a comfortable lead with goals from Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, but Richarlison pulled one back and tensions rose in the closing stages.
But overall, Liverpool’s players will be happy with their performance in what is always a tricky away game.
Liverpool’s player evaluation after winning 2-1 against Tottenham
Alisson Becker – 7.5 – This wasn’t the best Spurs team Alisson has played against, but Alisson did well, making four saves in total, even if there wasn’t much he could do against Richarlison’s late attacks. The reason for this was the lack of defense.
Connor Bradley – 6 – There are some good moments ahead, but Conor Bradley still looks a little inconsistent at this level and was substituted at half-time due to injury issues.
Ibrahima Konate – 7 – We played well for the most part, better than some games this season, but we were a bit disappointed with an unnecessary yellow card.
Virgil van Dijk – 7 – He had almost perfect command at the back and posed a threat for Liverpool from set pieces, but a late clearance error allowed Richarlison to score.
Milos Kerkes – 6 – It was a subdued but solid performance from Liverpool’s left-back, who is slowly and steadily gaining confidence after a difficult start at Anfield.
Ryan Gravenbirch – 8 – Mr. Reliable in Liverpool’s midfield was once again a superb all-round performance from Ryan Gravenbirch, competing for every ball and keeping the game ticking over.
Curtis Jones – 6 – Although he has put in solid performances since joining the team, he is perhaps a little too cautious with his passing, often opting for safe options when he could have done more to advance the team.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 7 – He remained one of Liverpool’s best performers this season and was once again a key man for Liverpool, but unsurprisingly his contribution was slightly lower when he was asked to play right-back again.
Alexis Mac Allister – 6 – It’s not bad, but it’s not the best either. He lacks the brilliance and quality that he could have shown with his passes and shots.
Florian Wirtz – 8.5 – Perhaps his best performance in a Liverpool shirt was his brilliant assist for Isak’s goal. Wirtz finally looked like a big threat throughout the game, as statistically he was the player of the match according to WhoScored.
Giant Ekichike – 8 – Hugo Ekitike, who was at his best in front of goal, did his job again shortly after Isaac’s opener with a superb header to make it 2-0. He is a real threat up front and has scored five goals in his last three Premier League games.
