Major League Baseball’s offseason activity is expected to slow down this week as the holiday season approaches, yet teams continue to finalize notable moves. CBS Sports has gathered the most significant tweets and transactions from Sunday in one convenient summary.

The Toronto Blue Jays, fresh off an American League Championship, have joined the race to sign free agent third baseman Alex Bregman. Bregman, who has been linked with the Red Sox, Cubs, and Tigers, may be a key acquisition if the Blue Jays fail to secure outfielder Kyle Tucker. Toronto plans to shuffle players like Ernie Clement and Andres Jimenez to cover for a possible departure of Bo Bichette, with Bregman likely at third base. CBS Sports ranks Bregman as the No. 2 free agent to watch this offseason.

Japanese power hitter Munetaka Murakami signed a two-year, $34 million contract with the Chicago White Sox just before the signing deadline. Murakami, who broke the Nippon Professional Baseball home run record in 2022, will become a free agent at 28 with MLB experience. Despite a high strikeout rate and defensive concerns, his youth and power bode well for the rebuilding White Sox.

With Murakami’s addition, the White Sox are reportedly looking to trade outfielder Luis Robert for pitching depth, engaging in talks with the Reds and Mets. Robert, 28, has underperformed in recent seasons but remains under contract through 2026, with an option for 2027.

The Seattle Mariners continue discussions with free agent third baseman Eugenio Suarez about rejoining the team. Though Suarez’s defense and strikeouts are liabilities, his recent 49 home run season provides undeniable offensive value. If signed, Suarez would return to third base, complementing the Mariners’ recent signing of Josh Naylor to a five-year deal.

The New York Yankees have re-signed right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn to a one-year, $2 million deal. Blackburn, 32, struggled last season but made pitching adjustments that could improve his performance in 2026.

Fan Take: This flurry of moves highlights teams’ strategic efforts to balance proven power hitters with promising young talent. For fans, these signings and trades could reshape team dynamics and playoff races, making the upcoming MLB season particularly exciting to watch.
