Report: Alexander Isak’s expected return date revealed, return could be poetic

Liverpool won a hard-fought nine-a-side match against Tottenham 2-1 on Saturday.

Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike were on the scoresheet for the Reds, while Richarlison scored the only goal for Spurs.

Isak’s goal was only Liverpool’s second, with the Swede having endured a difficult start to his spell at Anfield since signing in the summer.

He has struggled with match fitness and is only just starting to show glimpses of himself, but his goal against Spurs ended up costing him dearly.

He took the chance well, but his night ended when Micky van de Ven caught him with a rather reckless shot.

There has been a period of uncertainty regarding the injury, but David Ornstein provided an update last night, confirming a broken bone and announcing that he will be out for “several months”.

A report from Football Paparazzi details the various possibilities for a return depending on the type of injury, and reveals when Liverpool’s No. 9 is expected to return.

The Swedish international’s recovery is currently balanced between a best-case scenario and a careful rehabilitation program, the outlet said.

The report states that if Isak avoids any failed surgeries or ligament complications, he is expected to return to training in mid-to-late March 2026.

The report outlines three different possibilities for his return to the matchday squad. The most optimistic date is mid-March next year.

If he returns on this timeline, his return could be against Tottenham at Anfield. This is said to be a “poetic” day of return.

However, a more realistic return date is said to be early April. This timeline will allow him to be fully integrated into training during the March international break and ensure match fit for the final season run-in.

How many games could Alexander Isak miss?

The potential loss of a player of Isaac’s quality would be a huge blow to the slot. Based on a realistic return, Isak will miss the majority of the 2025/26 campaign.

If his recovery extends into April, Isak could miss 10 to 15 games against the Reds in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

Should Slott’s team advance, his absence will be felt in the final stages of domestic cup competitions and potentially the European finals.

For now, Chiesa will be hoping to get the nod to fill the void in his absence, but Liverpool will be hoping for Isak’s return sooner rather than later. They have had a shaky season and will need all their star players to be fit if they are to aim for a top-four finish.
