  • Manchester United face dilemma over Conor Gallagher
  • Ruben Amorim wants fresh options in midfield

Manchester United are once again considering a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, but a big gap remains between the two clubs over the structure of a potential deal.

Fabrizio Romano says United are hoping to renew their interest when the January transfer window opens, but Atletico remain firm in their desire for a permanent move.

United’s praise for Gallagher is nothing new. The Old Trafford club considered a loan move for the England international during the summer, seeing him as a reliable midfielder with a proven track record in the Premier League.

However, negotiations failed to progress as Atlético Madrid made it clear that they were not interested in a temporary move.

That stance has not changed. Atlético are open to letting Gallagher go, but only if the right conditions are met.

The Spanish side value the midfielder at around €30 million and are thought to be prepared to only consider selling him on a permanent transfer.

From their perspective, Gallagher remains a valuable asset despite his inconsistent role under manager Diego Simeone and his departure must make financial sense.

Since joining from Chelsea, Gallagher has struggled to secure a place in the starting lineup under Simeone. Although his energy and work rate are highly praised, he is often used from the bench and has limited starting appearances in La Liga, with players more often used as impact options.

The situation has fueled speculation about Gallagher’s future, especially as he hopes to play regularly at this stage of his career.

Man United are seizing the opportunity. Under head coach Ruben Amorim, United are looking at their midfield options and are eyeing a number of players to improve their midfield.

Gallagher’s familiarity with the Premier League and leadership qualities make him an attractive profile.

However, United are wary of making a permanent deal in January, with other midfield targets also being considered in the long term, particularly Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleva.

Financially, United will likely want a loan or a contract with flexible terms, possibly including a buy option.

Negotiations are likely to be delicate when they resume next month, as both clubs remain firm.
