  • Should Liverpool sign a striker in January?
  • Reds may take conservative approach in January

Following Alexander Isak’s injury, Liverpool are looking for short-term attacking cover and are considering a number of options across Europe.

The latest to be linked with the defending Premier League champions is Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth.

According to Radio Marca, the Spanish giants will demand a transfer fee in excess of £30 million to part ways with the Norwegian international, a price that Liverpool have plenty of room to consider.

Sorloth was initially floated as a possible loan move after Alexander Isak suffered a serious injury and missed a crucial period of the season.

Should Liverpool sign a striker in January?

Liverpool wanted to avoid panic buying in January, so a temporary addition who could provide experience and reliability in front of goal was considered an attractive option.

However, a realistic contract for Soros was always leaning toward a permanent transfer, and it did not fully align with Liverpool’s short-term plans.

At Atlético Madrid, Sorloth is seen as a valuable asset to the team rather than a requirement.

Although he is not guaranteed to always be a starter, Diego Simeone praises his work rate and ability to score important goals.

The attacker scored 24 goals for the Spanish giants last season, showing his consistency and ability to lead an attack.

As a result, Atlético have little incentive to concede mid-season price cuts or loan moves, especially with their domestic and European ambitions still strong.

Liverpool’s hesitation is also shaped by the team’s wider circumstances. Medical updates on Isak are becoming increasingly positive, with hopes that the striker could return in the spring.

This schedule reduced the urgency to commit large sums of money to stopgap solutions, especially those that involved large fees and wages.

Arne Slott may prefer to focus on tactical adjustments and internal solutions and continue to trust his current attacking options until Isak is fit again.

At this point, it seems highly unlikely that the Reds will be able to move Soros.
