Hill and Dale has announced that Burns, a $3.2 million yearling by Into Mischief purchased at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga by Donato Rani for Amr Zedan’s Zedan Racing Stables, will be retiring to stud at John G. Sikula’s Hill and Dale at Xalapa Ranch.

Burns, a standout who has won numerous prestigious stakes races from Churchill Downs to Santa Anita and Keeneland, was named in honor of Jimmy Burns, a longtime assistant to Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.

Bob Baffert described Burns as an exceptional yearling with a powerful build, impressive speed, and emerging Grade 1 talent before a tendon injury halted his racing career. Burns made his winning debut at Churchill Downs, and Baffert expressed great confidence and pride in bringing such a serious 2-year-old to the track.

Burns posted near-record times over five furlongs at Churchill Downs and quickly became a favorite for the Kentucky Derby following a commanding victory at the San Vicente Stakes. Showing his true potential, Burns dominated the G3 Perryville Stakes at Keeneland by an impressive 8 1/4 lengths, setting him up as a top contender for the G1 Malibu Stakes.

John G. Sikura, president of Hill & Dale at Xalapa, praised Burns as a stunning and well-bred colt from the leading sire Into Mischief and part of a distinguished bloodline including G1 winners like Spinning Round and Majestic Warrior. Sikura highlighted the quality and class throughout Burns’ pedigree, which traces back to notable sires such as AP Indy, Seeking the Gold, and Dixieland Band.

Donato Lani, a leading pedigree agent, emphasized Burns’ striking appearance and commanding presence, calling him not only a beautiful horse but one of the most influential stallions of the modern era. The stud fee will be set at $15,000, with a limited number of shares available for purchase.

Fan Take: This news is significant for horse racing fans because Burns’ retirement to stud brings a fresh and highly promising bloodline to future generations. His combination of elite pedigree and racing brilliance could greatly influence the sport, breeding new champions and enhancing the quality of Thoroughbred racing for years to come.
