Tom Aspinall vows to ‘beat Ciryl Gane into daylight’ and reveals a bold plan to poke him in the eye

After a disastrous end to 2025 for Tom Aspinall, the UFC heavyweight champion has issued a fierce warning to Cyrille Gane for their upcoming 2026 matchup.

In October, Aspinall’s inaugural defense of his undisputed UFC heavyweight title against Gane was cut short due to a double eye poke, resulting in the fight being stopped. Despite criticism from fans and some fighters, Aspinall later revealed he still suffers from impaired vision in both eyes and may require surgery. Just last Sunday, he informed fans that surgeries on both eyes are scheduled, with one set for mid-January and the other soon to follow.

Initially, Aspinall and Gane maintained a respectful relationship, with Aspinall praising Gane’s skills. However, the unfortunate incident caused tensions to rise, with Aspinall accusing Gane of being a “con artist” and insisting the eye poke was intentional. In a recent interview, Aspinall admitted to sending aggressive threats to Gane. He emphasized that his priority is his health but made it clear that his ultimate goal remains to return and “beat the living daylights” out of Gane.

Regarding the frequent issue of accidental fouls like eye pokes during fights in 2025, Aspinall offered his thoughts on how to address the problem. He suggested stricter consequences: if a fighter commits one foul, it’s an accident, but if they foul again, the opponent should receive a penalty. His idea is to deter repeated fouling by forcing referees to take tougher actions, which would make fighters think twice before committing fouls.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for fight fans as it sets the stage for a highly charged rematch with deeper personal stakes and possible lasting physical consequences for Aspinall. Moreover, his proposed rule changes could lead to fairer and safer fights, which the sport desperately needs to maintain its integrity and fighter safety.
