Glasgow Rangers centre-forward Youssef Chelmiti has a lot to do to justify the £8m transfer fee Kevin Thelwell agreed to pay Everton for his summer performance.
The Portugal Under-21 international has only scored two goals in 21 appearances for the club so far, which is not enough to warrant his most expensive contract in 25 years.
However, his performance against St Mirren on Tuesday night showed signs of promise. According to Sofascore, he delivered a perfect cross from the left and brilliantly assisted Emmanuel Fernandes’ goal, winning five out of nine games.
It was a step in the right direction for Celmiti, although he will have to do more to prove that Germiti are not overpaying him for his services in the summer transfer window.
Danny Rolle boosts Rangers’ interest in signing EFL star
The Light Blues are now reportedly keen to sign a player who could work well alongside the Portuguese centre-forward in the second half of the season.
According to TEAMtalk, Danny Rolle will play a leading role in strengthening the Scottish Premiership giants in the upcoming January transfer window, with the versatile forward being one of his wishlists.
The German head coach says the club’s interest in signing Wrexham attacking midfielder Josh Windass is due to his admiration for the former Rangers man, according to the paper.
He further added that the Gers had already attempted to sign the former Light Blues attacker on a late-season loan deal, but this was rejected by Wrexham, who did not want to lose their star forward.
TEAMtalk suggests that a deal may not be in limbo as Rohr wants to sign him, but it remains to be seen whether the club are willing to sign the 31-year-old star on a permanent deal.
Why Rangers should sign Josh Windass
Signing the 31-year-old attacker on a short-term loan may not have been a particularly attractive option as it would only be a stopgap measure, but a permanent move could be interesting for him.
Despite his age, acquiring Windass on a full contract could be good business for the Gers. This is because he is a player who can make an immediate impact on the pitch and at the same time could be a good role model for younger players heading into the final years of their careers.
In the short term, the experienced forward could be the perfect player for Celmiti. His main position is as a second striker or attacking midfielder, as he can provide a big goal threat while playing behind the main number nine.
Windass currently faces Kieffer Moore, who has a similar build to Chelmiti and has seven goals and three assists in the Championship so far this season, according to Sofascore.
The English attacker has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 44 games for Sheffield Wednesday under Rolle in 2024/25, meaning he already has a strong working relationship with the Rangers manager.

As you can see from the table above, Windass’ form at Wrexham this season makes him the most prolific and impressive goalscorer in the current Rangers squad.
The English forward, described by writer Kai Watson as a “polarizing” link for his first period at the club, is a perfect fit for Celmiti as he has the qualities to provide an immediate goal threat in a second striker or attacking midfield position to compensate for the number 9’s struggles in front of goal.
Windass’ presence as a goalscorer in the Premiership could take some of the pressure off the £8m signing’s shoulders. His consistent performance in front of goal will give Gers the goals they currently lack from a striker.
According to Sofascore, Chelmiti’s two assists in Rangers’ four Premiership starts suggests he may have the creative potential to create scoring opportunities for Windass, which could allow both teams to form an effective partnership at the top end of the pitch.
Rolle could be ruthless in selling Cameron to Rangers for ‘sensation’ for £5m
Danny Rolle could become a star signing with Rangers signing Lyall Cameron in the January transfer window.
So signing the Wrexham star on a permanent deal could be good business for the Scottish giants if they decide this is the way to go.
