  • Arne Slott reviews Liverpool’s season after 0-0 draw with Leeds United
  • Liverpool can still have a good season

Liverpool manager Arne Slott, when asked to analyze the Reds’ current situation midway through the season, did not sound too optimistic about his team’s season.

Slott’s side suffered a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Leeds United last night, but it’s safe to say the Dutch tactician wasn’t feeling too positive at his post-match press conference.

Liverpool won the Premier League title with relative ease last season, but things have been much more difficult for Slott this season, with the team sitting in fourth place, 12 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Speaking after the game against Leeds, Slott admitted that many games so far this season had been difficult for his players.

When asked to assess the season so far and what Liverpool can achieve going forward, Slott didn’t sound too positive, despite a slight improvement in results recently.

“We got off to a really good start in terms of results,” Slott said.

“The games were really close, and then there were periods in the season when they were still close, but we were always unlucky.

“Right now, I think we’ve been unbeaten for seven or eight games, and when you say that you’re like, ‘Wow, they’re flying through the league,’ but that’s not what we’re doing.

“Every game we play, it’s a tough job. The two teams are very close to each other.”

He added: “Hopefully we can find a moment to jump through this season, but the first 19 games have been a constant battle…sometimes a little bit lucky, sometimes a little unlucky.”

Liverpool can still have a good season

Liverpool are clearly not in the same form as last season, but are there any positives for the second half of the season?

Their recent results have certainly improved, with LFC recovering from a slump in which they won only three of their 12 matches and lost the remaining nine.

Slott’s side are currently unbeaten in their last eight games, winning five of those games and conceding just six goals, despite previously looking like the underdogs.

In addition, summer signings such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremy Frimpong and Milos Kerkes, who were initially slow to settle at Anfield, are starting to show signs of improvement and could give the team momentum in the second half of the season.
