Manchester United are currently desperate to add to their midfield with Ruben Amorim, and are reportedly sending officials to check out one of their key targets.
INEOS aims to break through the midfield
It’s a new year and a new opportunity for Man United to turn the corner under Amorim, who could make or break his 12 months at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils appear destined to back him again in this year’s transfer window after making a major breakthrough in transforming their front line in the summer.
This time, INEOS are said to be fully committed to welcoming midfield reinforcements after seeing the struggles of Manuel Ugarte and the decline in reputation of Coby Mainu.
In recent weeks, Lisandro Martinez has been forced out of position and moved into central midfield, and while injury hasn’t affected him at all, there’s no denying that United need an upgrade even at full strength.
As a result, a large number of targets have reportedly already emerged. Names such as Carlos Baleva, Adam Wharton and Elliott Anderson have been mentioned in recent weeks ahead of what could be another chaotic transfer window in Manchester.
January is not the time to spend big, but reports suggest Man United are “determined to make a leap” in their pursuit of a midfield star, which could end up in the hands of INEOS.
Given how difficult it is to sign big contracts over the winter, the likes of Baleva, Wharton and Anderson could be fallback options if they arrive.
Manchester United sends executive to manager Ederson
According to Team Talk, Manchester United are currently sending officials to check on Ederson at Atalanta. The Brazilian is one of the Red Devils’ midfield targets and could move on this month as his price tag is below €40m (approximately £35m).
Among the names in the Premier League, Ederson remains one to watch. The 26-year-old is talented in his own right and would instantly end Ugarte’s era at the heart of Amorim’s midfield.
League statistics 25/26 | ederson | Ugarte |
|---|---|---|
minutes | 950 | 554 |
progressive path | 70 | 32 |
tackle win | 13 | 17 |
ball collection | 64 | 32 |
Man United could reportedly sign an instant player for Ugarte in a number of departments for less than £35 million. The former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has struggled the most with possession. Ederson, by contrast, has improved this season when asked to improve his game.
New Rashford: Manchester United hold contract talks for £61m ‘explosive’ star
The attacking star could add new dynamism to Manchester United’s final third
The Atalanta man, described as “out of this world” by former England manager Fabio Capello, ticks several boxes as Man United continue their search for midfield reinforcements this month. Compared to Wharton and Anderson, the Brazilian is definitely a bargain.
