Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Brazilian defender Souza from Santos.
Lucas Musetti reports that Tottenham have made an offer for the 19-year-old defender, but the offer has been rejected. Santos are asking €17 million to sell the player and it will be interesting to see if the north London outfit come back with an improved offer to seal the deal.
Tottenham could use Souza
Tottenham could use more depth in the left-back department and the South American player would be a long-term signing. He is a young player with great potential and is highly rated in South America. If Tottenham can get a deal done, the €17m investment could look like a bargain going forward.
The defender has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Newcastle United in recent weeks. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. The opportunity to move to the Premier League is exciting for him and will test him at the highest level. Playing regular football in England could accelerate his development and help him reach his potential.
Will the Spurs be able to get a deal done for Souza?
Tottenham certainly have the financial wherewithal to pay him €17 million, and it remains to be seen whether they decide to return with an improved offer. If we want to achieve good results in multiple tournaments, we need more depth in our team. Signing some of the best young talent would be a step in the right direction.
Souza will no doubt want to compete at the highest level. He will be hoping clubs like Tottenham can reach an agreement with Santos in the coming weeks.
With multiple clubs interested in the defender, Santos will be looking to squeeze every bit of money out of his potential departure. It remains to be seen where he will end up.
