Crystal Palace are reportedly working hard to secure the long-term future of goalkeeper Dean Henderson, with the club identifying the England international as a key figure in their ongoing project.
Former scout Mick Brown said the Eagles were determined to sign Henderson to a new deal as they sought to protect the team’s “backbone” amid increased interest in top talent.
Since establishing himself as the undisputed number one at Selhurst Park, Henderson has returned to form and become one of the Premier League’s most consistent shot-stoppers.
Retaining the 28-year-old has become a top priority for the hierarchy as the club looks to avoid losing their key stars.
Crystal Palace want Dean Henderson to extend contract
Mick Brown has revealed that Crystal Palace want to reward Henderson’s performance and ensure stability in their final squad.
The club is reportedly wary of losing key personnel and believes an extension for Henderson is essential to remaining competitive.
The news will be a boost for supporters, especially given reports that Henderson is settling down in south London.
Brown told Football Insider: “Crystal Palace want to keep Henderson.
“He has become a key part of what they do there and it goes back to what I said earlier about Palace wanting to keep their best players.”
“They’re worried about losing some key players, so they’re working hard to keep the team healthy and he’s a big part of that.
“He made two dazzling saves against Tottenham and another against Fulham.
“Henderson has continued to shine as a goalkeeper since leaving Man Utd to join Palace and has really improved his game and is a great option.
“His form can only be a big plus, not only for Palace but also for England.
“From what I hear he is very happy with Palace and the success he has had there, so I think keeping him on a new contract is something they will encourage to happen.”
