Sovereignty’s 2026 Debut at Motts Barn: Date Still Up in the Air

Michael Banahan, Godolphin’s director of bloodstock, mentioned that the racing plans for Sovereignty, the four-year-old winner of two Classic races, are still undecided. According to Banahan in Blood Horse, the team is likely to structure Sovereignty’s 2026 racing schedule around the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland. After an exciting run at Del Mar, Sovereignty did not participate in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.

The Into Mischief offspring has returned to trainer Bill Mott at the Payson Park Training Center in Florida following the New Year. Banahan expressed optimism for the horse’s progress, highlighting his strong performances through December and hoping for a positive month ahead under Mott’s guidance.

Banahan also noted that if Sovereignty had won the 2025 Breeders’ Cup Classic, he probably would have retired to stud in 2026.
