Paige Backers Breaks Silence, Candidly Addresses Rumors of Being ‘Cooked’ on Unrivaled

Fresh off being named the WNBA Rookie of the Year, Paige Bueckers has kicked off her first season in the 3on3 Unrivaled League. The Dallas Wings standout showcased her impressive side-step three-point shooting, which grabbed attention earlier this week.

In her debut game with Breeze BC, Bueckers scored 24 points, helping her team secure a 69-62 victory over Phantom BC. Following the game, she shared insights with Candace Parker about the physicality of Unrivaled compared to the WNBA, noting that Unrivaled is even more physical. Without defensive help, players often find themselves isolated, meaning they must accept sometimes getting “cooked” or beaten one-on-one.

Bueckers wrapped up her rookie year with the Wings averaging 19.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. She also recently participated in Team USA’s training camp in Durham, North Carolina, alongside stars such as Kaitlin Clark, Angel Reese, JuJu Watkins, and Aliyah Boston.

Now entering its second season, the Unrivaled League will run through March 4th.

Bueckers has shown no signs of slowing down since leading the University of Washington to a national championship. She carried that momentum into her rookie WNBA season and is continuing to shine in Unrivaled. Unlike many newcomers who are often told to wait their turn, Bueckers has proven herself a force at every level—college, professional, and international play. Her strong performances in Unrivaled suggest even greater things are ahead for her in her sophomore WNBA season.

In short, the best is still to come for Paige Bueckers.

Fan Take: This news highlights Paige Bueckers’ rapid rise as a dominant player across multiple basketball platforms, signaling a new era of talent in the WNBA. For fans, her continued growth promises thrilling performances and deeper competition, elevating the league’s profile and inspiring the next generation of players.
