Fabrizio Romano has announced a big update on the impressive midfield star who could be heading to Manchester United.
Gary Neville laments Manchester United’s ‘Groundhog Day’
It’s easy to believe he still has the boss’s influence, but it’s been more than a decade since Sir Alex Ferguson left and the Red Devils have yet to make any progress.
They’ve taken on back-to-back champions, old heroes, and even the next big thing in Ruben Amorim. All of them have failed. Despite the promise of a new era with INEOS in charge, the Old Trafford outfit find themselves back at square one in search of a new man in the dugout.
It’s a repeat as far as Gary Neville is concerned, but the Man United legend has lamented the ‘Groundhog Day’ being played out at his old club amid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s interim appointment talks.
“They got Ryan (Giggs) in charge 10 years ago, then Ole took over, they went back to the old players and then they went back to the new players, getting more experience.
“It’s almost like a cycle, it’s like a movie we’ve all seen before and Groundhog Day. What I think is Ole is a guy who really loves the club, he knows the job and he’s been in the job.”
This cycle must end by the summer if Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his wife are to rebuild the club. They must make the right decision, even if it means abandoning the idea of Manchester United’s ‘DNA’.
By then, reports suggest Solskjaer could actually take the wheel for a second time, before focus shifts to more permanent options.
It’s unlikely to be a strong selling point for potential signings, but that’s unlikely to stop Jason Wilcox and his team from pursuing an impressive midfield star.
Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United are ‘serious candidates’ to sign Anderson
Speaking on GiveMeSport’s Market Madness podcast, Romano said Manchester United are “serious candidates” to sign Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest in the summer.
A relocation expert said: “He’s very high up on Manchester United’s list. Along with Carlos Baleva, there are a couple of players that Man United are keeping an eye on. I think they’ll be busy in 2026 with the signing of midfielders, and Andersson is one of them. I’m sure Andersson will be part of that conversation as well.”
“Many clubs will be interested in him. Manchester City will also be looking for a midfielder. Let’s see what happens at Chelsea.”
“So I think it’s going to be a big battle, but all I can say at the moment is that Man United have mentioned his name a number of times internally so I’m hopeful that they will be serious candidates.”
It’s easy to see why there’s such interest in Anderson. The Nottingham Forest man received incredibly high praise from England manager Thomas Tuchel earlier this season, with the German manager calling him an “elite player” and “one of the best midfielders in the Premier League”.
