Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs considering highly-rated FC Köln winger Said El Mara, according to Christian Falk.
In his latest CF Bayern Insider column, Falk revealed that all these clubs are in the market for this player profile and Yann Diomande is also a name they like.
El Mara, 19, is one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting talents at the moment, and despite not being a regular starter, he has made an impressive contribution so far this season with six goals and two assists.
It seems like it’s only a matter of time before the Germany Under-21 international is snapped up by a big club, with Liverpool and Chelsea likely to be the teams to keep an eye on.
Christian Falk explains his interest in moving to El Mara
Focusing on German football, Falk discussed the current winger market and how clubs looking for a talented young left-sided attacker are looking at both Diomande and El Mara.
“Bayern Munich made a big signing for Luis Diaz last summer, and it’s going really well! The decision was made to sign an older, more complete player, and they signed him from Liverpool for a whopping €70m (£60.7m),” Falk wrote.
“The idea now is to have competition for young players on the left flank, so Yann Diomande (19) is one of the ideas on the club’s shortlist. They also have Said El Mara from FC Cologne. That’s the view. They want to do something in this position.”
“Diomande has a long-term contract with RB Leipzig until 2030, which means he won’t come cheap. That’s why we need to take the interest from Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City very seriously.”
“Of course, we talk about these clubs, but it’s the same outfit that lists Said El Mara. They all have the same idea. Bayern Munich could do something in this position, but they don’t have to. It’s a very comfortable position for FC Bayern.”
Should Said El Mara choose Liverpool or Chelsea?
If the choice is between these two clubs, it will be very interesting to see who has the advantage in the race to sign El Mara.
It’s entirely possible that the teenager will move to Chelsea, as they focus on recruiting and developing the best young players in the world, but the jury is probably still out on whether that project will work out.
In contrast, Liverpool may have more competition for positions in the attacking line, but El Mara may also be given the chance to play regularly in the Champions League and be part of a sure-fire winning project to compete for the biggest trophy.
