Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is reportedly keen for the club to invest €25 million in a potential transfer for Atletico Madrid attacking midfielder Thiago Almada.
The Argentina international has long been seen as a promising future, but now, at 24 years old, his career at Atlético appears to have stalled a bit.
According to a report in Spain’s Fichajes, Villa manager Emery currently believes it is worth trying a move to invite him to Villa Park in January.
Almada is seen as someone who can add sparkle and creativity to Emery’s side as they continue their surprise bid for the Premier League title.
Could a successful January transfer window help Aston Villa’s title challenge?
Villa currently sit third on goal difference, with Emery’s side level with Manchester City and six points behind league leaders Arsenal.
AVFC will not be favorites to win the league in most people’s eyes, but six points difference is not that big of a difference and they have performed well for the majority of the season.
If Villa can have a successful transfer window and land a talent like Almada, who can play as an attacking midfielder or winger, it could bring new dimension and fresh inspiration for the second half of the season.
Fichajes has indicated that Emery is keen on the move, which he also appears to have the support of Villa’s sporting director, and is likely to be one to watch in the coming days and weeks.
