Manager Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham made a serious attempt to sign RB Leipzig sensation Yann Diomande during the January transfer window, but his bid was rejected by the German club.

The 19-year-old Ivorian winger has emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted talents this season, attracting the attention of the continent’s elite with his incredible performances in the Bundesliga.

According to Romano, Tottenham tested Leipzig’s resolve with a concrete approach as they look to strengthen their attacking options for the second half of the season.

However, the message from the Bundesliga side was emphatic. Yann Diomande is not for sale in January.

Romano revealed on his YouTube channel:

“Tottenham had already tried for this January slot, but it was not possible, so there will be a lot of interest in Diomande, who is one of the most interesting wingers on the market at the moment. However, in January Leipzig would like to keep the player.”

Leipzig, known for developing talent and selling them for high prices, are reportedly keen to keep hold of the winger to ensure they achieve their domestic and European goals this season.

Spurs were keen to bring him to north London immediately to help finish the season on a high, but were forced to admit that a mid-season contract was off the table.

summer may be different

Tottenham’s immediate pursuit has hit a wall, but competition for Diomande is expected to intensify once the summer window opens.

“The message from Leipzig is that Diomande will not leave the club within the January deadline. They want to keep the player. The message from Leipzig is that Diomande will not leave the club within the January deadline. They want to keep the player,” Romano said, pointing out that competition will be fierce.

Ultimately, it will be a different story in the summer, as Man United, PSG and Bayern Munich have sent personnel to follow him. ”

Diomande has been described as “one of the most interesting wingers on the market right now” thanks to his blistering speed and technical ability on the ball.

Spurs are likely to face a much tougher battle to sign him in July than they did in January, with powerhouses like Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain circling.

Leipzig are said to be valuing him at close to 100 million euros, sending a clear message that 60-70 million euros is not enough to land the young sensation.

That’s Diomandes and RB Leipzig.

The 19-year-old has already featured in 17 games this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in all competitions.

His combination of pace, dribbling and technical skill has led him to be recognized as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising attacking talents.

Adding a player of Diomande’s quality would have given Tottenham a huge boost in creativity and direct attacking threat, but they will have to wait until the summer to challenge one of Europe’s brightest young stars.
