Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Inter Milan centre-back Stefan de Vrij, but the move has fallen through again recently.
De Vrij was close to moving to Al Hilal in the Saudi Professional League, but that contract fell through at the final stage and he will remain an Inter player for the time being.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle are considering a potential move for De Vrij this month, along with Nottingham Forest.
The paper explains that Forest are targeting De Vrij on loan, but it is unclear whether Newcastle will sign De Vrij on loan or on a permanent basis.
Stefan de Vrij’s transfer will cause some problems for Newcastle United
As a report from Football Insider points out, De Vrij’s potential move to St James’ Park is not without its problems.
It remains to be seen whether it is really worth it for Newcastle to sign the experienced Dutch defender, as he is not eligible to play for Eddie Howe’s side in the Champions League.
That’s because De Vrij has already represented Inter in competitions this season.
Newcastle could probably benefit from bringing in De Vrij as extra cover for domestic games, but there could also be more valuable options that could help them in Europe as well.
