According to Crystal Palace sources, Liverpool reportedly responded to their approach to sign Marc Gehi with a very strange away move in the summer.
That’s the claim made by Sky Sports journalist Kabe Solhekol, who explained that he believes the Reds could have signed him in the summer if they really wanted to.
Gehi is currently set to move from Palace to Manchester City in January to help manager Josep Guardiola deal with a major injury crisis at the back.
However, many Liverpool fans will be annoyed after hearing from Sol Hekol that the club has been in a bit of a mess with the signing of the England international…
Crystal Palace surprised by Liverpool’s attitude towards Marc Guehy transfer
“If Liverpool really wanted him in the summer, I think they would have gotten him in the summer,” Solhekol said.
“The information we always got from Crystal Palace was that Liverpool were quite disrespectful about this…because they spent all this money on forward players and then made a last-minute offer for Marc Guehy. It was kind of a ‘take it or leave it’ offer.
“In fact, I think the Crystal Palace officials had to go to Liverpool in the Community Shield and say to the opposite number: ‘Look, what’s going on with Marc Guehi? I hear you’re interested, but when are you going to make an offer to him? Because we need to know where we stand.’
Liverpool will surely regret missing out on Marc Gehi
According to BBC Sport and others, a £20 million move for Guehi to Man City has been agreed, and it will be interesting to see what this means for Liverpool in the future.
So far, it seems certain that the Merseyside giants have approached this deal in a big way, costing them a top centre-back.
Arne Slott’s side have struggled this season, with the aging Virgil van Dijk no longer in his best years, while Ibrahima Konate is in decline and nearing free agency.
Guehi obviously had the potential to be an important player for LFC when he arrived, but now he leaves and strengthens one of their biggest rivals.
