Aston Villa approach African giants as Emery seeks midfield muscle

Aston Villa are interested in signing Club Brugge’s defensive midfielder Rafael Onyedika.

The 24-year-old has performed very well for the Belgian team and Galatasaray are also keen to sign him. According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Villa inquired about him following Boubacar Kamara’s injury.

Kamara suffered a blow in last week’s FA Cup game against Tottenham Hotspur. He was forced to leave with a knee injury.

It will be interesting to see if they can sign the 24-year-old Nigerian midfielder this month. He has proven his quality in Belgium and has the same physical and technical attributes in English football. The defensive midfielder is versatile enough to play in central defence, and could be an asset for Aston Villa.

The opportunity to move to the Premier League would be very exciting for him. It would be a step up in his career and allow him to play alongside quality players at the West Midlands club. He will also work with top-class managers such as Unai Emery.

Aston Villa are aiming to qualify for the Champions League and need more quality from their squad. They need physicality and defensive strength in the middle of the park and the African would be an ideal addition. It remains to be seen whether they will take over their interest and make a formal proposal on player design.

The Belgian team does not want to lose a key player like him so easily and could demand a premiership. Onyedika’s contract runs until 2027 and it remains to be seen whether Aston Villa are willing to break the bank for him.
