Tottenham Hotspur’s financial uncertainty has further worsened after The Independent reported that recently sacked Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is not interested in taking over as Spurs manager.

Despite discussions within the club and Alonso’s name being highlighted as a potential replacement for Thomas Frank, the Spaniard revealed in the summer that he intends to wait for a better opportunity.

Pressure on Frank has intensified dramatically in recent weeks.

Thomas Frank has struggled for Tottenham this season

Spurs’ 2025-26 season, once full of hope since his arrival, has descended into inconsistency, tactical confusion and an alarming lack of progress.

Tottenham currently sit 14th in the Premier League, well below expectations for a team with top-six ambitions and one of the league’s highest wage levels.

The recent setback, a disastrous 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened West Ham United, has added to the crisis.

The Hammers left north London with all three points, despite having gone 11 league games without a win, causing anger among supporters and major concerns within Spurs’ hierarchy.

Spurs have won just one of their last seven Premier League games, a record that puts Frank’s future in serious jeopardy.

The performance lacked structure, confidence, and identity, the very problems Frank was hired to solve.

Alonso remains one of the hottest young managers in football, although he was recently sacked by Real Madrid after a checkered spell.

His reputation, built during his glorious days at Bayer Leverkusen and Real Sociedad B, remains largely intact despite his short spell at Madrid.

Tottenham’s season is slipping away, dissatisfaction is growing among the fans and the board’s patience with Frank is running thin.

The rejection of Alonso, who they saw as a likely long-term candidate, only complicates things further.
