  • ‘It’s embarrassing’ – Erling Haaland gives cruel assessment
  • A flurry of warnings for Pep Guardiola

Manchester City suffered a shocking defeat in the Champions League on Tuesday night as they suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat away to Bod/Glimt in their first appearance in the tournament.

In a match that was expected to be a routine victory for the Premier League giants, Josep Guardiola’s side were completely dismantled by the Norwegian underdogs on the artificial turf of the Aspumila Stadion.

The result leaves City’s European hopes in a precarious position and puts further pressure on a team on the verge of losing their invincibility.

The night was particularly painful for City’s talismanic striker Erling Haaland.

Back in his home country of Norway, Haaland looked frustrated throughout the match, isolated by a spirited Bodo defense and unable to capitalize on several half-chances.

Speaking to TNT Sports shortly after the final whistle, the forward made no excuses and gave his brutally honest assessment of the night.

“There is no answer. I am responsible for not scoring,” he said.

“I would like to apologize to everyone, all the Manchester City supporters, all the supporters who traveled to Bodø. At the end of the day, it’s embarrassing.”

The defeat in Norway follows on from a disastrous Manchester derby result in which Manchester United were comfortably defeated by Michael Carrick’s Manchester United.

The midfield, usually City’s greatest strength, looked porous in back-to-back matches, allowing Bodo/Glimt to fight back with deadly efficiency after days of United dominating the center of the park.

It was also the second game in a row that Haaland was completely contained by his opponent.

As the season enters a critical phase, Guardiola faces the huge task of reintegrating his new stars and restoring their confidence before their silverware ambitions are completely destroyed.
