Tottenham Hotspur are currently planning a raid to sign Borussia Dortmund’s ‘exceptional’ player, but the German club has set a high asking price.
Spurs focus on Dortmund star after Champions League match
Thomas Frank shrugged off some of the pressure on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win thanks to first-half goals from captain Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke, with the striker getting on the scoresheet for the first time since May.
Tottenham have had an impressive run in the Champions League this season, moving up to fourth in the table after a win against the Bundesliga side, but there is still room for improvement in their Premier League form.
The worry is that some of Frank’s summer contracts are not on track. Xavi Simmons hasn’t gotten off to a great start, with just one goal and three assists in 16 Premier League games.
So, according to a report from BILD (via Sport Witness), Spurs are in the race to sign a new midfielder and are planning a transfer ‘attack’ to sign Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmeka.
However, the deal could be expensive, with the Lilywhites’ recent Champions League opponents unlikely to let him leave for less than €60m (about £52m).
Dortmund are currently in a good position in negotiations as the 25-year-old, who often plays in an attacking midfield role, is under contract until 2028, but there is also growing interest from the Premier League, with Manchester United also mentioned as potential suitors.
‘Awesome’ Nmeka could play at Spurs
The Hamburg-born maestro failed to make much of an impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night, but he has impressed previously in this season’s Champions League, scoring three goals in seven games.

Spurs are stepping up their efforts to sign Aston Villa.
Former Dortmund manager Nuri Şahin has also been full of praise for the former six-time Germany international, with the Turkish player particularly impressed by his versatility.
The Hamburg-born midfielder has also been in the spotlight in the Bundesliga this season, with his defensive qualities on display in the 2-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach last month, suggesting he could be a highly versatile player.

Nmeka has proven he can be a quality signing for Tottenham, but having already secured a deal for Conor Gallagher, signing a new midfielder probably won’t be a priority for ENIC this month.
