Why Sabers Might Be the Perfect Trade Destination for the Blue Jackets’ Star Player

The Buffalo Sabres currently hold the fourth spot in the Atlantic Division with a 27-17-5 record, positioning themselves with a genuine opportunity to end their 14-year playoff drought. Nonetheless, competition for playoff spots in the Eastern Conference remains intense, making it prudent for the Sabres to consider strengthening their roster. One standout trade candidate in the NHL is Columbus Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner.

Jenner, who is an unrestricted free agent (UFA), has been linked to trade talks as the Blue Jackets are out of playoff contention. Should he become officially available before the trade deadline, the Sabres would be smart to aggressively pursue signing him. Adding Jenner would bring a versatile forward capable of playing center and wing, along with a strong leadership presence—qualities that could help the Sabres advance to the next competitive level.

Currently having a solid season, Jenner, a first-round pick in 2011, has appeared in 35 games, tallying eight goals, 17 assists, 25 points, and 79 hits. These stats would secure him a place in Buffalo’s top nine forwards. Additionally, Jenner’s two-way playing style would bolster the Sabres’ efforts on both the power play and penalty kill.

Fan Take: This potential move is exciting for hockey fans as it signals the Sabres’ commitment to ending their long playoff drought with impactful players. Jenner’s addition could not only elevate Buffalo’s competitiveness but also add depth and leadership, making the playoff race even more gripping for the sport.
