Arsenal have reportedly made their first informal inquiry into the status of Atletico Madrid striker Julián Álvarez ahead of the summer.
According to ESPN, the Gunners had their eye on Alvarez last summer and are now considering the possibility of signing him again for the 2026/27 season.
According to ESPN, Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta could be key here as he previously worked at Atletico Madrid and has a good relationship with Alvarez’s agent Fernando Hidalgo.
The report comes after other sources have also increased the talk of a potential move from Alvarez to Arsenal, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein also suggesting he could be a player to keep an eye on.

There is no guarantee that Alvarez will end up at Arsenal as it is still early days, but his price could be difficult for many clubs to meet as well.
As reported yesterday, Alvarez’s transfer fee could be up to 150 million euros, or perhaps closer to 200 million euros, according to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur.
But another thing to keep an eye on may be how Alvarez does and how that affects his price tag in the coming months.
A recent report from Fijages suggests that the 25-year-old’s value may already have declined after his poor form, with just one goal in his last 10 games.

The former Manchester City player has clearly improved during his time in La Liga, so a return to the Premier League could very well be on the cards.
Álvarez has performed well despite being only an international for City and now looks poised to become a mainstay at a top club, with Arsenal needing such a player to complement Victor Goqueres, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.
