Manchester United are reportedly set to begin talks with Koby Mainu over a new contract, according to a “significant” update from Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett.
Dorsett explained in Sky’s video report that Man United have made initial contact with Maynou’s agent, although negotiations have not yet begun.
With Casemiro leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season, Mainu’s future now appears to be considered ‘key’, as officially announced by both club and player yesterday.
The talented young England international had a disappointing season, spending most of his time on the bench, but that was under former manager Ruben Amorim.
Koby Mainu offers new contract with Manchester United
With Amorim gone and Michael Carrick appointed as caretaker manager, Mainu looks set to once again play a big role in United’s first team.
The 20-year-old started in last weekend’s Manchester derby victory over rivals Manchester City and produced a superb performance in the 2-0 win.
MUFC fans are now hoping that Mainu’s new contract is resolved as soon as possible, with a report from Sky suggesting he could be able to secure favorable new terms.
Manchester United should build their midfield around Koby Mainu
Mainu was a product of United’s famous academy and quickly seemed to fit right in with the first team.
It was a bit of a shock for many club fans when he lost his place earlier this season, but it now appears that efforts are being made to put all this right.
Mainu is still young and learning the game, but he has already shown that he is someone United should develop for years to come.
Arranging a new deal for Maynou appears to be an important task for United, who will want to show him that he will be a long-term mainstay at Old Trafford.
