Chelsea are reportedly set to miss out on AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who has reached a verbal agreement on a new contract at the San Siro.

The France international shot-stopper had previously been the subject of approaches from Chelsea, but they were unable to agree a deal during the summer.

See below. Fabrizio Romano posted on X a few months ago about the Blues working on signing Megnan, and today he posted an update saying the player is close to signing a new deal with Milan…

“AC Milan and Mike Maignan have reached a verbal agreement on a new contract until June 2031! Although formal steps need to be taken, the signing of the French goalkeeper, whose contract expires in June 2026, will be done properly. It is a big move for Milan, where Maignan is considered a key player,” Romano posted today.

The 30-year-old is certainly a huge upgrade over Robert Sanchez, who has been largely unconvincing at Stamford Bridge thus far.

Manager Gianluca Di Marzio recently revealed that while Milan are confident of keeping Maignan, Chelsea remain committed to their relationship with him.

Sky Sports suggested that CFC were still involved in signing Megnan, but Milan have managed to turn this around and retain a key member of their squad.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea move on to another goalkeeper target in the near future, or if they decide they are content to keep Sanchez as number one.
