Former Barcelona manager Xavi is likely to be on the radar of both Manchester United and Tottenham, with reports saying he could be open to joining.
The Spanish tactician is currently unemployed after a decent job as Barça manager a few years ago, and the Premier League could be his next destination.
Xavi is one of the greatest players of all time, winning everything to win against Barcelona and Spain, but the jury still doesn’t rate him as an elite manager.
Still, it’s not too surprising that he is likely to be at least considered, if not a top target on the list, by both Man United and Spurs, according to Football Insider.
Xavi’s stance shows interest from Manchester United and Tottenham
Pete O’Rourke spoke on the Football Insider podcast about Xavi’s situation, with Thomas Frank also under pressure at Tottenham as United search for a new manager.
“He was obviously the manager for a time at Barcelona, where they won the league, but he has been out of work since the summer of 2024.
“Xavi himself would probably be interested in the chance to move to the Premier League and join Manchester United or Tottenham.
“I don’t know if he’s probably that high up on both clubs’ lists. Of course we know that United are looking for a permanent manager in the summer and Michael Carrick is acting as interim manager at the moment.”
“Thomas Frank is still in charge of Tottenham for now, but nothing has been decided about what he will do long-term.”
Managers who may be transferred
While this could be a busy summer for managerial changes as United need a permanent successor to caretaker manager Michael Carrick, it is unlikely that Frank will last long at Tottenham.
Xavi’s availability makes him a player to watch, with Enzo Maresca also currently out of work, and Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola both due to have their current contracts with their clubs expire.
The World Cup could be key here too, as managers such as Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, Carlo Ancelotti and Mauricio Pochettino may well be unable to continue if they perform poorly in the competition.
