Manchester United has disclosed four potential players they are considering to take over from Brazil’s Casemiro, who will leave the club when his contract ends this summer. The Champions League-winning former Real Madrid midfielder has been a pivotal figure, and the club is exploring options that include several English talents.

Casemiro Confirmed as Free Agent

Casemiro was signed from Real Madrid for £60 million (around $81 million) in the summer of 2022 and quickly became a key player for United. He must reach 150 appearances for the club before becoming a free agent.

The possibility of a one-year extension for the 33-year-old midfielder has been set aside as United aims to revitalize their midfield. He’s currently on a weekly salary of £350,000.

While United seeks to upgrade their squad, they will face higher initial transfer fees for replacements. Nonetheless, they have identified four players with established experience in the Premier League and view securing a new number six as a top priority.

Manchester United’s Transfer Targets: Anderson and Wharton

United is closely following Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, all potential long-term additions to the squad.

Another name under consideration is Carlos Baleva, a Brighton midfielder who was previously pursued in the summer of 2025 without success. A winter transfer for the 22-year-old is also on the table, though it may be complicated by the current managerial vacancy at the club.

Casemiro’s Long Goodbye

The next player to slot into Casemiro’s role will face significant expectations at United. Although he could not help the team clinch the Premier League title, he played an instrumental role in securing the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

His experience is unquestionable, and many were surprised by the lack of a reduced contract extension for the 82-cap Brazil international. Instead, he is preparing for a heartfelt farewell.

Upon announcing his exit, Casemiro commented: “I will carry Manchester United with me for the rest of my life. From the moment I left this incredible stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love from the fans for this unique club.”

“This isn’t the time for goodbyes. There are still many memories to create over the next four months. My commitment remains in helping this club succeed.”

He further expressed on Instagram: “Knowing when to move on, to say goodbye while still remembered and respected. Four months left to give our all for this club and our objectives. Eternal respect and love for Manchester United and its remarkable fans. Forever a Red Devil.”

Champions League Qualification Will Simplify Spending

Casemiro hopes to leave while having assisted United in qualifying for the Champions League. The team is striving for a top-four finish in the Premier League, and their recent 2-0 victory over Manchester City was a significant boost to their ambitions.

United is currently just one point behind the reigning champions, Liverpool, but they must stay vigilant as competitors loom close behind. Achieving a spot in the prestigious European tournament would facilitate the club’s efforts to attract elite talent from rival teams.

Despite previous challenges in returns on investments, the club is prepared to spend significantly again, especially in the midfield area for the summer of 2026. As they prepare to part ways with Casemiro, club captain Bruno Fernandes is also generating rumors of a possible transfer to the Saudi Professional League.

Fan Take: This news is critical as it signifies a major transition for Manchester United, emphasizing their need to adapt and evolve in a highly competitive landscape. Fans will be keenly watching how the club’s choices impact their future prospects, especially in light of their ambitions in both domestic and European competitions.
