Aston Martin Set for Late Entry at 2026 Barcelona F1 Test – Discover the Reasons Behind the Delay

Crash.net reports that Aston Martin is likely to miss the first three days of the initial 2026 Formula 1 pre-season test at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit. The F1 teams are conducting a five-day “shakedown” test this week, with each team allowed to take part on any three days between January 26 and 30, but Aston Martin won’t be present for the opening sessions.

Seven out of the 11 teams showed up on the first day in Barcelona, while McLaren and Ferrari were already expected to sit out the opening session. Williams confirmed they would skip the entire test due to delays in getting their new car ready. Aston Martin’s absence was notable despite the support facilities available at the venue.

According to sources at Crash.net, the Silverstone-based team is missing the start because of development setbacks. An Aston Martin representative stated, “The AMR26 will be in Barcelona for shakedown later this week and will be running on Thursday and Friday.” It appears the team decided to extend their development phase by postponing the car’s design and production as long as possible.

The AMR26 is especially anticipated as it marks the first F1 car designed by legendary engineer Adrian Newey, who also takes on the role of team principal this season. Excitement is high as Aston Martin has locked in a factory power unit deal with Honda, adding further intrigue to their prospects.

Returning drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are set to pilot the team’s cars in 2026. Alonso, a two-time world champion, will turn 45 in July, and with his contract ending this year, he faces a crucial decision about continuing his F1 career.

Fan Take: Aston Martin’s delayed start reflects their all-in approach to building a competitive car under Newey’s direction, which could shake up the pecking order. For racing fans, this development promises greater unpredictability and a potential new challenger to the established giants, injecting fresh excitement into the 2026 season.
